In an effort to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable to the common man, the Chief Minister of Maharshtra Devendra Fadnavis has promised a new medical college in each district of the state soon. The medical colleges will be set up on the PPP models, and will be directed towards providing the citizens with added convenience such as getting details of vacant beds in hospitals through SMS on their mobile phones.

Speaking at a meeting, Chief Minister asked the hospitals registered under Charity Commissioner, as well as private ones to take a lead in providing quality health-care to the common man, as reported by PTI.

Charity hospitals should not have motive of profit, he said.

Fadnavis also said the medical assistance cell in the Chief Minister's Office is working to ensure that the common man gets benefit of health assistance schemes.

He said the medical assistance cell was liaisoning to increase private participation in the health-care sector and also urge corporates to increase their corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the sector.

Fadnavis inaugurated the web portal of Charity Commissionerate, in which details of hospitals in the state are mentioned.
