Electronic Medical Record is not compulsory in all government hospitals, confirms JP Nadda
Union Health Minister, JP Nadda has informed the Lok Sabha that the ministry has not yet made it mandatory to implement Electronic Media Record (EMR) in all government hospitals. However, the ministry is mulling over the fact, and will be doing so in a phased manner over a period of time.
The advisory issued to all states and UTs in September 2013, to adopt EMR standards in all information and communication technology applications in healthcare, including in rural areas, have not been updated, informed Nadda.
Nadda also apprised on the slew of digital initiatives taken by the health ministry recently, with AIIMS, RML hospital, Sports Injury Centre in New Delhi and National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences in Bengaluru, launching e-hospital portal services in July this year. The hospitals now offer e-healthcare services, including availing OPD appointment services, integrating payment gateway for online payments and to facilitate patients in viewing their lab reports and check blood availability status in hospitals.
