Nagpur: The first AIIMS at Nagpur is likely to be flagged off from the 200 bedded Employees' State Insurance Corporation ( ESIC ) Hospital at Ganeshpeth. This decision was taken by Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. The two ministers held a review meeting on Sunday, at Hyderabad House and decided the same.

Gadkari said that if any complications arise in the way of beginning the facility, he would speak to Union Health Minister JP Nadda. Collector, Sachin Kurve and other officials, including AIIMS, Nodal officer, Dr Ravi Chauhan were also present for this meeting and seconded the proposal.

The actual building is being constructed with a budget of Rs.1600 crores at Mihan, making the ESIC facility a temporary make do AIIMS. Raisoni College at Hingna, Panpaliya Hospital at Nandanvan and Pharmacy College had also been shortlisted for it, however, the final choice remained- the 200 bedded ESIC Hospital.

The ESIC Hospital and the three other above stated hospitals will be inspected by technical experts from the Union Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare, and within a month’s time a final decision taken regarding the same, informed sources.

Dr Viral Kamdar, Director of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Institute Medical Sciences Research and Human Resources, who too has been associated with the project said that the Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (HSSC), the implementing agency for the project, will continue with the construction and other works.

Mr. Fadnavis has directed Kurve to do all possible and have the AIIMS in functioning mode from this academic year itself. The effort would involve coordination between government departments. 150 acres land has been allotted for AIIMS at Mihan.
