New Delhi: Corresponding to the implementation of reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) in admission to medical colleges for the academic year 2019-20, the Medial Council of India Board of Governors (MCI BOG) have given a nod to a addition of total of 4465 MBBS seats in around 132 medical colleges.
The confirmation to this major effect comes via a recent notice issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) entailing the number of seats permitted to the medical colleges in view to implement the EWS quota so the seats of other categories don't get affected.

The notice informed that the Board of Governors in supersession of Medical Council of India (MCI BoG) submitted a proposal to the Ministry containing the names of Medical Colleges with permitted MBBS seats under EWS quota for 2019-20 which the Health Ministry has now accepted.
The MoHFW has directed the Counselling Authorities (States/UTs/AIQ) for filling up the MBBS seats under EWS quota as per rules in forthcoming academic year 2019-20.
According to the data, a total of 4465 MBBS seats have been added to around 132 medical colleges. The MBBS pool in these medical colleges for this academic year has now increased to 21,525 against the previous 17,060.

The maximum number of MBBS seats have been permitted to the state of Maharashtra with 970 seats.
From Rajasthan, 9 medical colleges have got to permission to add total 450 more MBBS seats. West Bengal has got the approval for to add same number of seats in 11 medical colleges
While Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh have got 291 and 310 more MBBS seats, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana have received the permission from MCI BoG to add 270 and 190 MBBS seats respectively.
