In an Instagram reel it is claimed that coriander, fennel, black cardamom, fenugreek seeds, and tulsi leaves cures thyroid disorders in just 21 days. In the reel by dr_sharukh__pathan__ it is said, "How are you, brother? Doctor sahab? All good. These days, many women are facing thyroid problems. They take a lot of tablets in the morning, yet the thyroid is not getting cured. So tell me a traditional remedy. For that, I will tell you a desi remedy—use it for 21 days and see, the thyroid will be completely eliminated within 21 days. What do you need to take? Take coriander 100 grams, fennel seeds 100 grams, take black cardamom (the large black one), and take fenugreek seeds 50 grams, okay? And take tulsi leaves 50 grams.

Grind all these things together once into a powder. Take one spoon in the morning and one spoon in the evening with fresh water or lukewarm water. Use it like this. When to use it? Dr Vijay Negalur, HoD- Diabetology, KIMS Hospitals, Thane in a conversation with The Medical Dialogues Fact Check Team said, “Claims that a mix of kitchen ingredients like coriander, fennel, black cardamom, fenugreek seeds, and tulsi leaves can ‘cure’ thyroid disorders within 21 days are not supported by medical evidence. Thyroid conditions whether hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism are complex endocrine disorders that usually require long-term management, not quick fixes.

While these ingredients do have general health benefits such as aiding digestion, reducing inflammation, or supporting metabolism they do not directly correct thyroid hormone imbalance or address the root cause of thyroid disease.

For example, hypothyroidism is often caused by autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, while hyperthyroidism may be due to Graves’ disease. These conditions require proper diagnosis, regular monitoring of thyroid function tests, and in most cases, prescribed medication.

Relying solely on home remedies and delaying evidence-based treatment can worsen symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, heart issues, menstrual irregularities, and even lead to serious complications.

That said, a balanced diet, stress management, and overall healthy lifestyle can complement medical treatment and support thyroid health but they cannot replace it.

Patients should always consult a qualified doctor before trying alternative remedies, especially if they are already on thyroid medication, as some herbs and seeds may interfere with drug absorption.”

Dr. Jayaditya Ghosh, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist, Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet, Hyderabad further added, "The claim that coriander, fennel, black cardamom, fenugreek seeds, and tulsi leaves can cure thyroid or indigestion in 21 days is actually not true.

In hypothyroidism, there is decreased production of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland, which may happen due to autoimmune disease, thyroiditis, or genetic problems leading to reduced hormone secretion.

None of these ingredients can increase thyroid hormone production from the thyroid gland. The only treatment is thyroid hormone replacement, which is given externally in the form of thyroxine tablets.

Taking these ingredients does not increase the production of thyroid hormones. Therefore, they cannot cure the thyroid problem that the patient is having.

Patients should not follow such claims and should not stop their thyroid medication, as doing so can aggravate the problem and may lead to serious health complications.

So, they should not follow these things. This claim is absolutely not true."
