Fact Check
The claim is MOSTLY FALSE. While turmeric has liver-supporting properties and black pepper and ghee may aid overall health, they cannot detox the liver that too in 2-3 weeks, which naturally cleanses itself and isn't affected by quick-fix remedies.
What is Liver?
The liver is a large, reddish-brown, soft organ and gland located on the right side of the abdomen beneath the ribs. In adults, it weighs around three pounds and is essential for maintaining overall health. It carries out hundreds of vital functions such as filtering toxins from the blood, breaking down old red blood cells, producing bile to aid digestion, metabolizing nutrients, assisting in blood clotting, regulating blood volume, and storing energy along with vitamins.
Can Liver Be Detoxified?
The liver has a built-in detoxification system and does not need help from special drinks or supplements. As a vital and highly efficient organ, it is primarily responsible for breaking down and clearing toxins from the body. Compounds are delivered to liver cells (hepatocytes) through two main blood vessels, the hepatic artery and the portal vein. Within the liver, these substances undergo complex chemical reactions that convert harmful compounds into safer forms, allowing them to be excreted effectively and maintaining the body's internal balance.
What are the Health Benefits of Turmeric (Haldi), Ghee and Black Pepper?
Turmeric, commonly known as Haldi is recognized for its vibrant orange-yellow color and distinct flavor. Its primary active compound is curcumin. Turmeric is known for its potent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. In Ayurvedic medicine, it has long been used to treat a variety of conditions, including respiratory issues such as asthma, allergies, and bronchial irritation, as well as liver problems, poor appetite, rheumatism, diabetic wounds, nasal congestion, coughs, and sinus infections.
Ghee provides notable nutritional advantages, largely due to its high-fat content and nutrient density. It is produced by clarifying milk, cream, or butter to eliminate nearly all water and milk solids, resulting in a product that is about 99.5% fat with minimal moisture. Ghee is a valuable source of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, which are essential for maintaining vision, bone strength, immune response, and proper blood clotting. It also contains phospholipids that support healthy cell structure and function.
Black pepper, often referred to as the "King of Spices," is prized not just for its flavor-enhancing qualities but also for its wide range of health benefits. It contains bioactive compounds like piperine, which exhibit antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic, and lipid-lowering properties. Research has demonstrated its ability to combat infections, reduce oxidative stress, and provide anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and neuroprotective effects.
Can Turmeric Ghee Shot Detox Liver In Two to Three weeks?
There is no scientific evidence or medical consensus that turmeric ghee shots can detox the liver within two to three weeks. Although turmeric may support liver function and ghee and black pepper offer general health benefits, the claim of detoxifying the liver with these remedies within two to three weeks is mostly false, as the liver detoxifies itself.
Turmeric, a commonly used spice known for its therapeutic effects, has been increasingly recognized for its role in promoting liver health. Research by Roghayeh Molani-Gol and colleagues indicates that curcumin or turmeric supplementation may help improve liver function, lower serum triglyceride levels, boost insulin sensitivity, and reduce both overall and abdominal obesity in individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Ghee, a clarified butter widely used in traditional diets, is known for its various health-promoting properties. A study by Anil Kumar et al. underscores ghee’s richness in short-chain fatty acids, which enhance its digestibility and may offer anti-cancer benefits. The study also highlights ghee’s function as an effective carrier of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) and essential fatty acids like linolenic acid and arachidonic acid.
Black pepper also known as Kali Mirch has been studied for its medicinal properties and potential role in managing several health conditions. According to research published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, black pepper may help relieve symptoms associated with cough, cold, and piles, highlighting its therapeutic value.
Turmeric may benefit liver health, ghee and black pepper have general wellness properties, but the claim that they can rapidly detoxifies the liver is not supported by any scientific evidence or medical consensus since the liver self-detoxifies itself.
