Court orders FIR on AIIMS director on graft charges

New Delhi: In response to the PIL filed against senior officials in AIIMS on account of purchase irregularties at the apex health institution of the country, Saket District court has ordered the police to lodge an FIR against the director of AIIMS, Dr MC Mishra, as well as HOD surgery Dr Bansal and supplier HS Enterprises and Overseas Association. The Haus Khas Police station has been asked to take the necessary action.

As reported by a hindi daily in the capital, Hindustan, the court has raised severe concerns about the actions of CVO, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Mr Manoj Jhalani who has been alleged to be misdirecting the CVC and misrepresenting the matter.  The matter had earlier been referred to the CBI, which, based on the evidence had found the senior officials guilty of graft in the matter.

The court has now directed the Haus Khas Police Station to Lodge an FIR in the matter and  submit its detailed report to the court by 2nd February, 2016.

This is not the first time that a court has taken firm stand against Senior doctors in cases of Graft at government hospitals. Earlier in the year 2012, a Director Professor at MAMC and a senior associate at LNJP hospital were sent to jail on allegedly purchasing medical equipment at exorbitant rates in connivance with equipment suppliers, as had been reported by TOI at that time.
