Foundation stone for 300 bedded satellite centre of PGI laid in Una

PGI will have the 300-bed capacity and specialised healthcare facilities at par with PGI Chandigarh, he added.

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, along with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, laid the foundation stone for PGIMER Chandigarh's satellite centre in Himachal Pradesh's Una district on Thursday. The said Satellite centre will be located 3 kilometres away from UNA


The health facility at Malahat will be ready in about 40 months at a cost of Rs 480 crore.

It will have the 300-bed capacity and specialised healthcare facilities at par with PGI Chandigarh, he added. The facility will cater to the needs of the public with various specialities including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, ENT, pediatrics, radiology and radio therapy besides dentistry




Nadda said the people of the state would not have to go to PGI Chandigarh for specialised healthcare facilities after the opening of the satellite centre.

Besides UNA, the Union Government is also working on developing the Satellite Centre at Sarangpur. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for transfer of 50.76 acres of land at Sarangpur, Chandigarh to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (PGI Chandigarh)

Before this, the foundation stone for the 500-bedded-satellite centre at Sangrur was laid in 2013 by the Punjab government, with a total allocation of 25-acre land for the institute. The centre was planned to be started with a 300-bedded hospital in the first phase, and also support medical and surgical departments with facility of residential quarters for faculty and staff.
