The Health ministry will set up an inter-ministerial committee to monitor the organ transplant issues. Set up with an objective to improve the mechanism for organ donation in the country, the committee will also seek support from related organisations.

The ministry also decided to make the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization a registered society to give it more autonomy.

"It was also decided to strengthen the infrastructure at regional and state levels. A programme will be launched for suitably recognizing/ honouring families of those who donate organs after their death. Also, comprehensive training would be provided to staff handling organ transplant in various hospitals," said a ministry statement.
