A report in TOI points out that while Pimpale has no official association with the JJ Group of hospitals, his orthopedic surgeon brother had previously worked there. A doctor from a state-run hospital, on condition of anonymity, told the daily that in the past they have come under political pressure to buy implants from Pimpale.
Head of orthopaedics at JJ Hospital Dr Eknath Pawar further told TOI they had banned Pimpale from selling implants to patients over a year ago. "We suspected his credentials, so did not allow him to operate at JJ. But we have little control over where patients buy implants from," he said. Pawar added that agents like Pimpale somehow get an access to the OT list, where names of patients awaiting a knee or hip surgery or treatment for fractures is listed, and contact them
It is reported that the rooms in the said part of the building belonged to the resident doctors and with room 306 being used as a store room.
Hindu reports that now A three member committee has been formed to investigate about how an outsider had occupied a room in the hospital’s staff quarter where he had stocked the orthopaedic implants illegally. The committee will also inquire on how many patients from GT, JJ and St George hospital were supplied these devices.
The 3 member inquiry committee consists of Dr Eknath Pawar, head of orthopaedic department, JJ Hospital, Vikas Miandad, deputy medical superintendent, GT Hospital and Dr Sawpnil Keni, orthopaedic unit in charge from GT Hospita
