VADODARA: Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has said that a special mother and child hospital will come up in the state.

"A special mother and child hospital will be established in the state. The aim of having this hospital is to provide complete medical assistance to a mother and a child under one roof," Patel said here last evening after reviewing the implementation of 'Swasth Vatsalya Yojna'.

The Chief Minister congratulated Vadodara District Collector Avantika Singh for "successful" implementation of the scheme in the district.

Singh said, "At present 1,247 women (of which some are pregnant) are being given specialised treatment including the one to curb malnutrition while another 550 expecting mothers have been brought under the scheme to ensure that they are not malnourished."

According to the Collector, 71 of 1,247 women under the scheme game birth to healthy babies and there was not a single case of miscarriage or still born baby.

During the visit, the Collector took Patel to a baby named 'Roshani' weighing 3.2 kg, who was born to "weak" women.

Patel asked the district collector to make 'Roshani' as brand ambassador of the scheme for Gujarat.

"It is the first focused mission to ensure that pregnant women and infants in the district get the required care," the Collector added.

According to Singh, the scheme takes special steps to guarantee that newly born babies in the district, are being monitored for indicators of malnutrition for the first six months.

"Eight different schemes related to women and child-health are combined under the 'Swasth Vatsalya Yojna," she added.
