The Union Health Ministry is reported to have approved a draft by the Chandigarh administration to boos the AYUSH infrastructure in the city. Under the new plan, a 50-bedded hospital will be set up in Chandigarh, and some 22 homoeopathy and ayurvedic dispensaries in the city will be upgraded by the end of this financial year.

The estimated budget for this project is 8 crore, with another estimated spending of Rs 2 crore for this year. The remaining amount will be allocated as per the project requirement, going forward. At a secretary-level meeting held in New Delhi, the Union Health Ministry approved the plan drafted by the Chandigarh Administration, as reported by a state newspaper.

Also, as a further step to enhance the AYUSH network in the city, ayurvedic and homoeopathy wings will be set up at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, and Community Health Centre, Sector 45.

Under the NAM, the UT Health Department will develop Sarangpur and Faidan villages as Ayush grams where schoolteachers, anganwadi workers and ANMs will be imparted training in yoga and naturopathy so that they can help and train others in the village. The ayurvedic dispensary at Sector 37 and the homoeopathic dispensary in Sector 27 are likely to get yoga and naturopathy centres. Besides, yoga training and dietary programmes will be conducted in 39 schools in different parts of the city, as confirmed by the local newspaper.
