New Delhi: Bringing joy to thousands of medical aspirants across the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released a public notice announcing its decision to issue Letter of Permission to Various medial institutions for establishment of new Medical Colleges/Increase in intake capacity in existing Medical Colleges for the academic session 2018-19. With the permission a total number of 2280 MBBS seats will be added to the undergraduate medical seat pool for the coming academic session.

This came after the Medical Council of India has recommended to Central Government to issue Letter of Permission (LoP) for the same

Medical Council of India recommended the Central government to issue LOP for the establishment of 13 new government medical colleges adding 1350 MBBS seats and 4 private medical colleges with 600 seats.

The central government has also issued permission for increase of seats in existing medical colleges. A Total of 180 seats will be added in existing government medical colleges as well as 150 seats will be added in 3 private medical colleges

The Ministry will issue necessary letters calling for documents etc. shortly and the letters will also be uploaded on the website of the Ministry.

The notice iterated that the Colleges whose Schemes have been approved are required to furnish the following documents/undertaking for getting the Letter of Permission (LoP) from the Central Government:-

  •  The applicant shall provide all infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment, and hospital facilities as per Medical Council of India norms.



  • No student shall be admitted in the above course till the formal permission of the Central Govt. is granted.



  • The Private Medical College should provide Bank Guarantee of required amount (wherever applicable) in favor of Medical Council of India, New Delhi valid for three years from a nationalized/ scheduled Bank as per MCI's norms. However, medical colleges/institutions governed by the State Govt. are required to furnish only an undertaking to provide funds in their budget till the facilities are fully provided as per time bound programme indicated by them.


The applicant colleges except who have already furnished the required Bank Guarantee/ Undertaking etc., are therefore advised to be ready with necessary documents so that the same can be sent to the Ministry on receiving the letter for such documents. The last date for issuing LoP is 31.05.2018. In case of any difficulty, applicant organizations may communicate at dvkrao@nic. in 86 sushil.bading79@nic. in.
