New Delhi: After receiving applications for starting new medical colleges and an increase in MBBS seats for the academic year 2024-25, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now sent emails to 170 applicant medical colleges. Of these 170 institutes, 112 applied for the establishment of new Medical College while 58 applied for an increase in MBBS seat intake.
The apex medical regulator had last year in August, invited applications from various stakeholders for UG MBBS course i.e. establishment of new medical institutions/colleges and increase of MBBS seats for the Academic Year 2024-25 under the provisions contained in National Medical Commission (UGMEB) Notification on Under Graduate Minimum Standard Requirements-2023.
Subsequently, many institutions applied and now the NMC has sent communications on the concerned office orders to them via emails and has asked them to wait for further information.
This information to this effect has been released by the NMC in its recently released notice, related to "Processing of Applications for UG MBBS course i.e. starting of new medical colleges and increase of MBBS seats for the Academic Year 2024-25".
The NMC stated:
"In continuation of Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB)'s Public Notice dated 06th March, 2024 uploaded on the NMC website regarding processing of Applications for PG Medical Courses for the Academic Year 2024-25, it is informed that vide Public Notice dated 18th August, 2023, MARB had invited applications for UG MBBS course i.e. establishment of new medical institutions/colleges and increase of MBBS seats for the Academic Year 2024-25 in accordance with the provisions contained in National Medical Commission (UGMEB) Notification on Under Graduate Minimum Standard Requirements-2023."
"In this regard, MARB has sent a mail to each of the applicant. The applicants may obtain the letter from email and wait for further information."
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that MARB received a total of 1675 applications including 1010 applications for the start of PG courses and 665 applications for the increase of PG seats in existing medical colleges for the AY 2024-25.
Although NMC recognition shall be granted to the institutes only after completion of the inspection process, it is expected that there shall be a significant increase in the number of postgraduate medical courses this year. NMC MARB shall review these applications based on the criteria laid down by the Commission earlier.
