New Delhi: Through a recent circular, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has informed about the process of re-allocation of medical colleges including PG Institutes to Nodal/Regional Centres for the purpose of various Faculty Development Programs and re-allocation of Regional Centres to Nodal Centres for Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME).

"This re-allotment of Medical Colleges, Standalone PG Institutes and Regional Centres will come into force from the date of issue of this order," stated the circular.

In this regard, the academic cell of the Apex medical commission informed on 06.04.2023 that, currently 634 Medical Colleges/Standalone PG are placed under twelve Nodal Centers and twenty-three Regional Centers for the purpose of various Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) such as Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME), Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP) and Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME).

The Director of NMC UG Medical Education Board further mentioned in the circular, "Since last allocation of the Medical Colleges, a number of new Medical Colleges have been opened. Further recently we have upgraded two (02) Regional Centres to the status of Nodal Centres and three (03) Medical Colleges have been accorded the status of Regional Centres for the purpose of FDPs."

"Under these changed scenario/circumstances regarding augmentation in the number of Medical Colleges, Nodal Centres as well as Regional Centres, it becomes necessary to do the re-allocation of all Medical Colleges for the various Faculty Development Programs (FDPs)," further stated the Commission.

"Similarly Regional Centres are also required to be re-allocated to the Nodal Centres for the purpose of ACME besides re-allocating Standalone PG Institutes for BCME," it added.

Referring to this, the Commission informed that on the basis of the feedback from the environment, Geographical proximity, and number of the colleges assigned the duties/workload, the competent authority has approved the re-allocation of all the Medical Colleges.

The commission also informed in the circular about the approval regarding the re-allocation of standalone PG Institutes to Nodal/Regional Centres for the purpose of BCME, and also about the allocation of Regional Centres to the Nodal Centres for the purpose of ACME.

Along with the circular, NMC has attached a list of Nodal and Regional Centres across the Country and the colleges that have been re-allocated to those Centres, the allocation of Standalone PG Institutes for BCME, and the allocation of Regional Centres to Nodal Centres for the purpose of ACME.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that last month, the UG Medical Education Board of NMC had released general guidelines for Faculty Development Programs conducted by NMC.

Mentioning that these guidelines shall come into force with effect from 17th April 2023, NMC had further mentioned in the circular, "Accordingly, existing guidelines issued by erstwhile MCI or by NMC from time to time on these subjects stand superseded or modified to that extent. The guidelines shall be adhered meticulously by all. Any violation will be viewed seriously."

Issuing the revised guidelines for conduct of various Faculty Development Programs by Nodal Centers, Regional Centers, and Medical Colleges, the NMC circular dated March 22 had also mentioned, "To ensure uniformity in conduct of FDP, training modules have been prepared by the expert group, incorporating certain common suggestions received from the environment. The training modules give a comprehensive overview of each topic besides outlining the objectives of a topic which must be covered during these workshops. These training modules shall be shared separately with NCs and RCs."
