Medical Dialogues recently reported that the NMC has called upon all medical colleges and institutions under its purview to actively participate in the event and organise yoga-related activities to promote health and wellness among stakeholders.

In a public notice issued by the Policy & Coordination Division, the Commission stated that the Ministry of Ayush is coordinating the nationwide observance of the International Day of Yoga, which has evolved into a globally recognised celebration of India's contribution to holistic health and well-being.

According to the notice, the theme for IDY 2026 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, reflecting the growing importance of yoga in supporting healthy longevity, active lifestyles, and improved quality of life across all age groups.

The NMC mentioned that the main national event will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Kolkata, West Bengal, on June 21, 2026. Alongside the flagship event, yoga programmes are planned across the country, with participation from ministries, departments, state governments, educational institutions, public sector organisations, and civil society groups.

In view of these celebrations, the Commission has requested all medical colleges and institutions to organise Common Yoga Protocol sessions, conduct suitable yoga-related activities, and encourage maximum participation from students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
