MBBS Admissions 2023: Details of only 1,04,891 MBBS students uploaded, NMC asks students to move DME whose details not reflected on portal
New Delhi: Releasing the list containing the details of MBBS students admitted in this academic year, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked the students, who were admitted to MBBS course in the academic year 2023-2024 and whose details are not reflected in the list, to contact the Directorate of Medical Education/ Counselling Authority urgently.
NMC issued this notice after noting that the details of only 1,04,891 students admitted in this academic year have been uploaded on the portal and some of the colleges did not upload the same.
The Commission clarified that only the students whose details have been uploaded on the portal shall be eligible for registration to practice Modern Medicine/ Allopathy in India provided they fulfil all other criteria as per rules and regulations.
NMC has extended the deadline for online filling of MBBS admission info for a couple of times. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that through a circular dated October 09, 2023, the Apex Medical Commission had asked medical institutes across the country to submit the details of the students who got admitted to the MBBS course during the academic year 2023-2024.
For this purpose, the NMC UG Board had set the deadline as 20th October 2023, till midnight. The Commission issued such a direction to ensure that all the MBBS admissions were made while adhering to the judicial decisions and MCI/NMC regulations, and to ensure that no admissions were made beyond the intake capacity, and to make sure that the eligibility criteria and qualifying marks specified under the Regulation on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 were being followed.

Previously, the deadline for completion of the MBBS admission procedure was September 30, 2023. However, thousands of MBBS seats remained vacant this year and ultimately the Union Health Ministry approached the Supreme Court bench seeking an extension of the last date of admissions to prevent wastage of 'precious' medical seats. Accordingly, MCC released the schedule for MBBS Special Stray Vacancy Round, which concluded on November 15, 2023.
NMC considered the schedule for the Special Stray Vacancy Round and extended the deadline to upload the joined MBBS candidates till 20.11.2023. The deadline was again extended and the colleges were allowed to upload the information of 1st year MBBS students admitted for the academic year 2023-2024 till 27.11.2023.
However, despite such extension of deadline on multiple occasions, several colleges did not upload the details of students admitted on the NMC portal. Finally, earlier this month, the UG Board of NMC clarified that the students who have not registered in the NMC portal shall be considered as invalid admissions and such admissions shall not be eligible for future registration processes as well.
Now, the Commission has issued another notice and referring to the extension of deadline on a number of occasions, NMC mentioned, "GMER, 2023 prescribes conditions and modalities for admission at graduate level medical education through common counseling. Accordingly, after completion of the counseling period, UGMEB though Circular dated 9th October, 2023 requested all the Medical Colleges to upload the details of students admitted for graduate level medical education for the Academic Year 2023-24 latest by 20.10.2023. Further, after extension of the last date of counseling by Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, another Public Notice was also issued to upload the details of admitted students for the Academic Year 2023-24 latest by 21.11.2023."
NMC mentioned that details of only 1,04,891 students admitted for the Academic Year 2023-24 have been uploaded on the portal. Referring to the medical colleges which did not upload the details, NMC mentioned in the notice dated 18.12.2023, "Some of the colleges did not upload the details and some uploaded the incomplete data. Despite issuance of circular and public notice, it has been found that details of only 1,04,891 students admitted for the Academic Year 2023-24 have been uploaded on the portal. It is informed that students whose details have been uploaded on the portal shall be eligible for registration to practice Modern Medicine/ Allopath in India provided they fulfil all other criteria as per rules and regulations."
Asking the students to go through the list to ensure that their names have been uploaded on the portal, NMC mentioned, "All students studying MBBS and got admission at graduate level medical education for the Academic Year 2023-24 must go through the list uploaded and available on the website of the Commission with the following link to ensure that their names are reflected in the list."
"Student who got admission in graduate level medical education (MBBS) for the Academic Year 2023-24 and their names are not reflected in the list may consult the concerned Directorate of Medical Education /Counselling Authority urgently," it added.
