New Delhi : Through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges to mandatorily register with the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) and get the AISHE code.

The notification to this effect has been issued by the UG medical education board of the NMC.

The Department of Higher Education launched the All-India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in the year 2011 under the Central Sector Scheme of Higher Education Statistics and Public Information Systems (HESPIS) to create a robust database of the educational institutions providing higher education in India. The coverage of AISHE includes all tertiary-level educational institutions, including medical education. All recognized institutions apply online for registering in AISHE through this dedicated portal, after which they provide regular data annually.

The list of institutions registered in the AISHE is used widely by Central Ministries and State Governments for checking the genuineness of student applicants in different schemes, A wide use of this is done in the National Scholarships Portal, where online application and processing of scholarships of different Ministries are done, after which scholarships are sent through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode to the students after proper online verification, de-duplication etc.

In order to extend the entitlements to the eligible and deserving students, the inclusion of all the institutions in the AISHE is necessary.

However, it has been observed by the apex medical regulator that some of the medical colleges recognized with the NMC are not in the AISHE list. Hence, the NMC has directed all medical institutes to register with the AISHE and get the code.

It is requested to mandatorily register and get the AISHE code at the earliest. The next round of applications from the student in the National Scholarship Portal might be starting shortly. Therefore, an early compliance by these institutions will help the entitled students to avail of the benefits extended by the Government.

For any help in this regard, the concerned officers/in-charge of institutions can contact Shri R.Rajesh, Deputy Director General in the email ID r.raiesh@gov.in.
