NMC streamlines Medical Admissions: State Counselling Committees to now enter data on available seats, not medical colleges
New Delhi: With an aim to streamline the counselling process for admission to medical seats and improve the transparency in seat reporting, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now written to all the State Medical Counselling Committees and informed that from the next academic year, the feeding of data in seat matrix will be done by each state counseling committees (SCC) along with MCC, DGHS instead of colleges/universities.
For this purpose, the Commission has also asked the medical colleges to nominate a nodal officer. In fact, the Apex Medical Commission has further clarified that from the academic year 2024-2025, the college/university authorities will no longer be allowed to enter data regarding the number of available medical seats for admission.
Writing to the State Counselling Committees on September 06, 2023, NMC mentioned, "The sections 14 and 15 of NMC, Act, 2019 empowers the National Medical Commission to regulate the manner of conducting of counselling by the designated authorities for admission to MBBS and PG-Medical seats in all the medical institutions which are governed by the provisions of this Act."
