NMC tells medical colleges to conduct Kayakalp activities on October 27, details
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked all medical colleges and medical institutions across India to participate in a dedicated one-day “Kayakalp Activities (Sanitation and Hygiene)” programme on October 27, 2026, under the government’s Special Campaign 6.
In a public notice, the NMC said the initiative follows an Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The activity is aimed at institutionalising Swachhata and improving cleanliness and hygiene across government offices and healthcare institutions.
The Commission has directed Deans, Principals, Directors and Heads of medical colleges and institutions to ensure active participation in the programme. Institutions may undertake cleanliness and sanitation drives, improve upkeep of their premises, promote better hygiene practices and adopt other suitable measures to strengthen cleanliness standards.
The Ministry’s communication, enclosed with the NMC notice, states that the one-day activity will also cover offices and institutions under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, including attached and subordinate offices, autonomous bodies, central public sector undertakings and Central Government hospitals.
Public healthcare facilities such as medical, nursing, pharmacy and allied healthcare colleges, district hospitals, sub-district hospitals, community health centres, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, primary health centres and sub-centres in States and Union Territories have also been encouraged to participate.
The NMC has further asked every medical college and institution to nominate a Nodal Officer to coordinate the activities and ensure timely compilation and submission of post-activity data.
The post-activity information must be submitted in the prescribed format to the Internal Work Study Unit (IWSU), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, through email by 4:00 PM on October 27, 2026.
The prescribed data collection format seeks details such as the State or UT, district, name and type of health facility, total sites covered, date and description of activity, before-and-after photographs, location and captions, link to social media posts, and remarks.
The Commission has asked all institutions to ensure timely compliance with the instructions and submission of the required information after completion of the activity.
