NMC to include 2 more specialities in TEQ Amendment Act
New Delhi: Taking note of the fact that the eligibility conditions for the appointment in the post of sports medicine and tropical medicine were not included in the Teachers Eligibility Qualification in Medical Institutions Regulations, 2022, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now decided to include both these courses of qualification in the TEQ Amendment Act.
This was confirmed by the NMC PG Board in the minutes of the meeting held by the PGMEB earlier this year, a copy of which is with Medical Dialogues team.
In its meeting dated February 07, 2023, the PG Medical Board of NMC took this decision after it received a letter from the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur in this regard.
The medical university in Rajasthan informed NMC PG Board that the posts of Sports Medicine and Tropical Medicine were not included in the present Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations, 2022.
These Regulations were published in the Official Gazette of India in February 2022. In the Regulations, NMC discussed about altogether 29 broad specialities, and 6 surgical specialities along with the academic qualifications, method of recruitment, and academic qualifications during transition period. However, Sports Medicine and Tropical Medicine were not included in the regulations.
After being informed of this by the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur, and considering the request of the University for including these two specialities in the TEQ, the PG Board of NMC noted the importance of these two specialities and decided to include both these courses in the TEQ Amendment Act and the PGMER.
Referring to this, NMC mentioned in the meeting minutes, "The Board considered the request of the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur for inclusion of the Sports Medicine and Tropical Medicine in the TEQ. The Board felt that Sports Medicine is an important Speciality and is prevalent all over the world and similarly the Tropical Medicine is also an important one. Therefore, the Board decided to include both these courses of qualification in the TEQ Amendment Act and the PGMER."
"In the meantime, Rajasthan University of Health Sciences can fill up the vacant faculty posts in these Departments as per the Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998," the PG Board further clarified in the meeting minutes.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the President of PGMEB, Dr. Vijay Oza. Apart from Dr. Vijay Oza, the president of PGMEB and Dr. K. Senthil, the Part-time member of NMC PG Board, Mr. Aujender Singh, Deputy Secretary (PGMEB), Ms. Rita Singh, US (PGMEB) and Mr. Pramod Pant, Sr. PPS were also present in the meeting.
