One-Year Recognition, Continuance of recognition to MBBS Batches admitted up to 2018-2019: NMC Clarification

Taking note of the situation, it granted relief to the MBBS graduates admitted up to 2018-2019 and further stated, "Considering the peculiar situation and hardship faced by these medical students in obtaining permanent registration in the absence of recognized medical qualification, it is clarified that Recognition / Continuance of Recognition granted by UGMEB for ONE YEAR in 2023 includes the MBBS batches admitted upto 2018-19."

"All Registrars of concerned universities and Directorates of Medical Education are requested to take appropriate action at their end. This issues with the approval of the President, UGMEB," further stated the circular issued by the Director of UGMEB, Shambhu Sharan Kumar.

Medical Dialogues had been reporting about the troubles faced by students across the country with the pending recognition from the NMC. In the absence of recognition from the Apex medical body, the MBBS graduates were unable to get permanent registration, initiate their medical practice, or participate in the counselling process for postgraduate medical admission.

Around 300 MBBS graduates in Uttar Pradesh were among the many students who were facing this problem. Raising the issue of those medical graduates in Uttar Pradesh, earlier the Indian Medical Association (IMA) approached the Chief Minister of the State Yogi Adityanath, and blamed the blanket permit given by NMC for this situation.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, in a major crackdown over non-compliance to its mandated standards for imparting medical courses, the apex medical regulatory body, National Medical Commission (NMC) de-recognised around 40 medical colleges. Apart from these 40 institutes, reportedly 100 other medical colleges were under the scanner of the Apex medical body.
