Shimla:  State-run Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla would soon have a super-speciality cardiology unit to help the patients who are visiting neighbouring states for treatment, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said.

"The IGMCH has grown to a stature of a modern and prestigious medical institute in the country and is now ready to be re-shaped into a centre of excellence," the Chief Minister said in his inaugural address at the continuing medical education programme-cum-conference of the cardiology department.

It's part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the IGMCH.

He said the state government is committed to provide state-of-the-art equipment and technology to IGMCH so that patients could get the best treatment.

"I want to have a full-fledged cardiology wing so that the people may not have to visit far-off places for heart ailments," he said.

The Chief Minister said it is a matter of pride that open heart surgeries are being conducted at IGMCH.

He said the health sector is among the priority areas of his government and all efforts are being made to provide better health services.

"Medicine is a noble profession and I expect you all to serve humanity with dedication and uphold the values and dignity of it," he said.
