Telangana: Acting stringently against unethical practices by medical practitioners, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) has suspended 3 medical practitioners sand issued a warning to 2 doctors for improper practice.

During a press note released yesterday, Council Chairman Dr E Ravindra Reddy confirmed the suspension of a psychiatrist and psychotherapist for six months. The suspension comes after one T Harita Reddy filed a complaint against the doctor.

Informing about the case, Dr Reddy told TOI, "The complainant opted for couple counseling for her marital discord, but Dr Kkare had never given the couple counselling and instead has taken a unilateral decision of giving 21 sessions of individual counselling with no positive result. Harita also alleged that Dr Kakre has not given them couple counselling for which they have enrolled and this lead to irrevocable repercussions on them and cost them money and kept their lives on hold. The doctor has failed to provide them with the video footage of counselling. Due to this unfair and unethical practice, Dr Kakar was suspended for six months."

The general body of the council also confirmed the suspension of Dr. Chandra Bhushan, senior orthopedic surgeon, for a period of two years for ethical infringement and for performing height lengthening operation on a young patient named Nikhil Reddy. The operation on Reddy created a controversy as it was performed allegedly without the consent of his parents.

The TSMC conducted a re-inquiry on the directions of the High Court and found that Dr Bhushan had wrongly counselled techie Nikhil Reddy, assuring him that he would be able to walk in two months. However, that didn't happen and Reddy wasn't able to walk properly even after two years.

Dr Namratha handed over a child to an NRI couple, who was not connected to them biologically but was delivered through surrogacy. The council, however, did not provide full details of the case which invited disciplinary action against her.
