Investigations confirm ragging victim also physically assaulted in BJ Medical College

The committee also alleged that Jain use to abuse the victim. The victim is the son of a senior surgeon in Ahmedabad, and was subject to continuous bullying by Jain.  In an incident, he was forced to wear a shirt bearing `I am a fool' and was paraded inside the ward.

An inquiry into the matter was set after the University Grant Commission's (UGC) anti-ragging cell pressurized the case from New Delhi in October this year. This is the first time UGC's anti-ragging cell, which also has a centralized helpline for students across India, reported the case directly to the medical college. It later filed a complaint with the Shahibaug police.

The accused doctor, a Delhi-native, was even arrested by Shahibaug police and later released on bail. Jain has been suspended with immediate effect till the police submit their report and the antiragging committee of the college decides action against him, as reported by TOI.

The committee in its re commendation has stated that Jain should be debarred from studying for at least one year and the UGC and Medical Council of India should also be informed about his act. The committee said that the college should also recommend that the registration of Jain should be cancelled.
