IPC Section 420: Medical College Director Arrested On Cheating Charges
Indore: The director of a private medical college here has been arrested for allegedly cheating students.
Ramesh Badlani (70), director of Modern Institute of Medical Sciences, was arrested by Delhi police from a hotel in the national capital yesterday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harinarayanachari Mishra told reporters here.
He was brought here today.
Badlani was absconding and police had announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for any information leading to his arrest.
He is accused of collecting fees of upto Rs five lakh from more than fifty students for admission to medical and nursing courses at the institute, and discontinuing the classes later citing financial difficulties.
The college staff too wasn't allegedly paid their salaries.
The students who had taken admission to the institute held a protest last month, following which police registered a case under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) against him.
Badlani has a degree in dentistry and had worked in the US in the 1980s before returning to India, police said.
