Jayalalithaa Launches Amma Master Health Checkup Scheme
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa launched a host of healthcare initiatives, including master health checkup scheme under the brand 'Amma' and unveiled some new government hospital buildings.
She launched "Amma master health checkup" and "Amma women special master health checkup" schemes worth Rs 10 crore and inaugurated the "Amma master health checkup" centre at the Government General Hospital in Chennai through video-conferencing from the Secretariat.
Tests including those for blood, urine, sugar, thyroid, screening for cholesterol, liver function, besides diagnostic investigations like ECG, and USG abdomen are available at a "very nominal" fee, the government said.
She also launched the "Amma Arokiya Thittam (Amma Health Plan)" in all the 385 upgraded Primary Health Centres wherein basic tests including, blood, urine, sugar, and ECG, will be done free of cost.
The chief minister inaugurated new buildings in various hospitals built at a cost of Rs 207.37 crore, dedicated new diagnostic equipment like MRI Scan and lithotripsy worth Rs 21.11 crore and laid foundation stones for medical college and hospital buildings at Pudukottai and Karur at a cost of Rs 458.92 crore.
