Karimnagar: Post graduate medical student commits suicide in college hostel

Karimnagar: A post-graduate student at a medical college here allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room, police said.

K Sowmya (24), a resident of Mannila Gudem village in Khammam district and first year MD Dermatology student at Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) here, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the hostel room last night, Karimnagar (Rural), Circle Inspector G Krishna said.

Sowmya recently got married to one Dr Pavan Kumar from Nalgonda last month and returned to the college hostel on Tuesday.

Earlier yesterday, when one of her classmates received no replies to her phone calls, she informed the hostel authorities who broke open the room and found her dead. The body was sent to Government Headquarters Hospital here for post-mortem.

A case was registered in this regard under relevant section of CrPC and further probe was on, the office said, adding that they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the death.
