Karnataka: Five nursing homes slapped with Rs 54,000 fines for waste dumping
Bangaluru: Five nursing homes/diagnostic centres in Dasarahalli have been penalized with a penalties totalling Rs 54,000 for dumping biomedical waste at public places by BBMP health wing. The inspections were conducted by a team which was headed by Dr R Surendra, deputy health officer, and senior health inspector and health officer conducted the inspection in the matter.
It was noticed that after the festive week was over, heaps of garbage piled up in the city, seeing to which the mayor acted upon it and allocated personnel’s at Mavallipura and Doddaballapur waste processing units to take stock.
Fine levied:
Instructions were given for the two places to not accept unsegregated waste. The unit may find it difficult to handle excess muck; it receives 250 tonnes every day, said the mayor as reported by TOI.
At the Doddaballapur unit, which gets 500 tonnes of waste daily, the mayor asked the staff to speed up the process to avoid accumulation. "All efforts should be made to process the waste on the same day," she said.
This is not the first time that a case of malpractice related with biomedical waste has been reported, as recently there was also a case where selling of biomedical waste was found, which was earlier reported by MedicalDialogues team.

- Dr Manjula Keerthiwho runs Lakshmi Nursing Home at Chokkasandra - Rs 25,000
- Dr Chandrakantha's Vivek Scan Centre at National Highway-4, Tumakuru Road, – 10,000
- Dr Venkatesh onTumakuru Road - 10,000
- Sumukha Poly Clinic run by Dr Shylaja -5000
- Dr Subbareddy's Modern Diagnostic Centre - Rs 4,000
