Thiruvananthapuram: To honour the eminent members of the medical fraternity and to recognize their services towards the community, the Kerala government will be conferring with ‘Best Doctor 2018 awards’ on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day to 6 doctors

The Doctors' Day is celebrated on 1st July every year to honour Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy on his birth anniversary. The doctors on the day are recognized for their contributions as a medical professional to individual lives as well as communities.

To acknowledge the service provided by doctors in Kerala, the state government has issued their names under different six different categories who will be receiving their awards from the Health Minister K K Shylaja. These doctors will be awarded cash of Rs 10,000 each in the citation. The awards will be conferred to the doctors who have put in a minimum of 10 years service in the state. These doctors are chosen by a ten-member selection committee after going through the details of their experience and contributions.

The state government to distribute the award has declared the names of following awardees under different categories.

  • The Best Doctor award for the contribution in the Department of Medical Education will be given to the Professor and Head, Emergency Medicine of GMC Kozhikode, Dr  R Chandni.  She is a renowned general physician in the state with a special interest in diabetes management and prevention of diabetic foot problems. She has been involved in patient care through the diabetic clinic and diabetic foot clinic of this institution since 2000.


 

  • In the category of Health Services, the award will be presented to Dr J Padmalatha who holds the position of Deputy Director of Health Services and State Leprosy Officer.


 

  • In the category of Medical Insurance Service, George Herald, an Insurance Medical Officer, ESI Dispensary, Alappuzha will be given the award.


 

  • In the autonomous institutions in the health sector category, Dr B Satheeshan, Director of the Malabar Cancer Centre and the Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology will receive the award.


 

  • Dr Simon Morrison, Deputy Director at the State Health Services Department will be awarded in the Dental division.


 

  • In the category of Private health sector, Dr C M Aboobacker, a consultant paediatrician in Chalappuram, Kozhikode is selected for the award, reports the Hindu.
