Kurnool General Hospital in AP to perform open heart surgeries

Also included in this amount is Rs. 1.25 crore set aside for the Non-Communicable Diseases Project to strengthen the intensive cardiac care unit, cardiothoracic and cardiology wings.

The work of creating the necessary infrastructure and installation of sophisticated equipment for the purpose is ongoing briskly, with Rs. 6.75 crore sanctioned by the Government on the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister K.E. The CT department which has been closed for eight years since 2007 was revived this year under the guidance of CT surgeon Dr. Prabhakar Rao. The cardiology department, established in Kurnool general hospital in 1971, with 16 beds and one professor got the cardiology, cardiothoracic and urology super specialties. The bed strength went up to 40 and an associate professor, four assistant professors and 20 nursing and other staff were sanctioned.
