The e-hospital service which was launched on 1st July, 2015 by the government to provide online OPD appointment services, integrate payment gateway for online payments, and to facilitate patients in viewing their lab reports and check blood availability status in hospitals has been recently in news this year.
In order to sustain the momentum of its implementation, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is establishing National Medical College Network (NMCN) wherein 41 Government medical colleges are being networked in the first phase riding over National Knowledge Network (NKN) with the purpose of e-Education and delivery. e-Healthcare
Presently, this service have been made available in various Hospitals which include All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi; Sports Injury Centre, New Delhi; National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bengaluru, etc. Online registration service has also been started in Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals from November, 2015.
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) extended the facility of online registration of OPD patients to five more departments only recently. These are departments of internal medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery, ENT and urology, as reported by indianexpress.
e-healthcare facilities have been launched in order to reduce the burden on patients to wait for registration of OPD consultations at the counters in state-run hospitals.
