Lucknow: Govt doctor killed in road accident

Lucknow: A senior doctor posted in Ghazipur district and his driver were killed while his wife and two sons were critically injured when their SUV was hit by a container truck under Gosaiganj police station area in the state capital on Sunday morning.


Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani here said that the doctor, who is posted at the Muhamadabad community health centre in Ghazipur district, along with family was returning back to Ghazipur after Diwali shopping from Lucknow when the accident occurred near Ekona cricket stadium on the national highway.


The doctor has been identified as Niranjan Prasad while the identity of his driver was yet to be known. The wife and his two sons have been admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Lucknow and were in the critical stage.


The preliminary investigation said that the driver of the container truck lost control over his vehicle which led to the accident. The container vehicle has been seized while the driver has been detained by the police.
