Lucknow: KGMU suspends senior faculty member

Taking a strict note on the state ban for the private practice being followed by the doctors in state-run medical colleges, a senior faculty member in King George's Medical University's urology department has been suspended for alleged indulgence.

As confirmed by the TOI, KGMU vice chancellor Dr Ravi Kant said: "Suspension orders have been issued along with a show cause notice to the person concerned."

As per the ground reports emerging, the doctor has been alleged for operating a patient for a prostate gland surgery in a private hospital in Telibagh area.

However, the things took a serious turn when the patient developed complications during the surgery, and was shifted to ventilator support as a result.

The name of the KGMU faculty came to the fore as the operating surgeon after the patient’s condition became very critical. Later, the family members were informed, and they created a scene over the matter. They also alleged that the hospital owner had asked them to take the patient away even when he was in a serious condition.

As reported by TOI, "No doctor is allowed to provide services outside the campus. The rules may be relaxed in case of an emergency. But in that case too, the faculty has to take permission from the university administration. There was no intimation of any sort from the doctor in question. Hence, a show cause notice has been served to him," said Dr Ravi Kant.

KGMU statutes also prohibit any kind of private practice by its faculty members.
