Ludhiana: City resident duped of Rs 17.5 lakh for admission in Medical College

A city resident in Ludhiana has alleged that he was duped of Rs 17.5 lakh after being promised a seat in a medical college. Allegedly, a university employee has put him to task on the pretext of arranging a seat in the medical college.

A police complaint registered at the local police station has revealed few details. The accused has apparently asked the complaint to pay the heavy sum in installments for procuring a seat in Mata Gujri Memorial Medical College at Purnia in Bihar. Rajiv, the victim in this case, was looking for admission of his son in a medical college when he met the accused.

Rajiv called for a police investigation after he alleged that the accused failed to deliver on his promise of arranging a medical seat, and also did not return the money he has taken for the purpose.

This is a second such incident after the recent case of a Delhi-based agent duped the HOD of orthopaedic at the Dayanand Medical College of Rs 1.5 crore in Ludhiana.

As reported by Tribune, the Salem Tabri police have registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC against Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Purnia Bihar.

The case has been registered on the complaint of Sunil Kumar, a resident of Rishi Harmila Nursing home, Netaji Nagar of the city. He told the police that he was looking for admission of his son in a medical college. In the meantime he met Rajiv who ensured admission for his son at Mata Gujri Memorial Medical College at Purnia in Bihar. Sunil said Rajiv took Rs 17.5 lakh in various installments. He said Rajiv neither managed to arrange his son’s admission in a medical college nor returned the money. Investigating officer said the case was registered last night and the police have initiated investigation in the matter.
