More than 300 doctors of GMCH on a 24-hour strike since morning

Following only verbal assurances from the commissioner of police, Aurangabad to arrest the accused who molested a resident doctor of GMCH, Aurangabad, the MARD Aurangabad wing and the 300 doctors associated with it in Aurangabad are on strike since 8.am today morning.

The case goes back to day before yesterday, where a patient was 80 yrs old male was brought to GMCH with convulsions. The patient sent for CT scan (brain) which revealed an infarct. The doctors at GMCH claim that they had advised the patient's kin for admission but the kin was not ready for admission. Owing to the weak respiration, intubation was done for artificial respiration in casualty but it didn't bring much response, probably due to patient's old age.The doctors on duty tried their best to revive him, but he was declared dead at 1.30am.

Following this, the kin of the patient began assaulting the resident duty doctor, Dr Sunil Kamble, a second-year resident doctor who was on emergency duty.

"This is the fourth attack on doctors in Aurangabad. We have seen that the police is not prompt in taking action under the Doctors Protection Act. In this case too, a case was registered under the Act but the culprits are still not arrested," said Dr Mundada.

the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has demanded stringent action as this is the 10th assault on doctors this year and third after the July 3 MARD strike was called off. One of the ten demands of MARD is the safety and security of doctors.

Doctors are categorically demanding the implementation of the Doctors Protection Act and to take action against the offenders under it. Verbal assurances are falling short for the implementation, according to them.
