Rumours of 5.00 pm meeting today for probable negotiating talks
If the rumors are to be believed, The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) is likely to meet the Medical Education state minister, Vinod Tawde, one last time before calling a strike tomorrow, july 02. The meeting, scheduled at 5.00 pm today, is a last resort of the association to get the state's attention and avoid a strike, with increase in stipend from doctors as the top agenda of the discussion. MARD demands written as well as time-bound assurance from the government that their demands shall be met. These talks are the last ditch effort to reach a consensus before they go on strike tomorrow, as confirmed by MARD sources.
MARD had earlier threatened the state government, with their highlighted list of demands, to go on an indefinite strike. As a mark of clear protests, the 4500 doctors attached to 18 medical colleges will wear a black ribbon, on the world doctor’s day-which happens to be today, July 01. The strike by MARD will start from July 02, as reported by the PTI.
Other demands, such as two-month maternity leave for female doctors, and fixed working hours, is also likely to be discussed. Also included, are few more demands such as the bond period, leave, and two months paid leaves for doctors contracting tuberculosis. The association has also demanded resident doctors to be posted in their department of specialization.
