The much-hype surrounding the transition of Doon Hospital into Doon Medical College has hit a dissatisfactory chord with the MCI team.

After a surprise visit by the MCI officials to inspect the proposed Doon Medical College site, the meeting with the college officials ended on a concerning note.

This is reported to be the third site inspection by the MCI team of the medical college, and this is also the third continuous time MCI is unhappy with both the quality and pace of construction work.

Reportedly, Doon Medical College principal Dr Pradeep Bharati and director Dr Ashutosh Syana did the rounds of the academic and administrative blocks with the MCI team. However, unimpressed with the ongoing work, MCI was also concerned over the fact that most of the recruitment's for the college hadn't been done and so far and only a principal and some residents had been hired.

As reported by TOI, the officials present at the proposed Doon Medical College site on Haridwar bypass were in for a shock on Tuesday morning as a team from the Medical Council of India arrived there unannounced.

Significantly, this was MCI's third inspection of the medical college, and like on last two occasion, the three-member team is learnt to have expressed its dissatisfaction over both the quality and pace of construction work.

The inspecting team later visited the Doon Hospital and was reportedly equally unhappy with the facilities there.

Dr Ashutosh Syana told TOI that the MCI team would submit its report to the council, based on which Doon Medical College may get an approval. Meanwhile, senior officials in the health department said that the medical college is unlikely to get a nod from the MCI.
