Managing Nasal Congestion in Allergic Rhinitis: Whats the Mechanism of Action of Allegra D ? - Video
Overview
Allegra-D is a Schedule H prescription drug. To be sold by retail on the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner only.
Allergic rhinitis affects 20–30% of the Indian population and is commonly triggered by indoor and outdoor allergens such as pollen, dust mites, and pet dander. Nasal congestion is reported by nearly 85% of patients as the most troublesome symptom, significantly affecting quality of life, productivity at work or school, and increasing the risk of asthma.
To address these challenges, Sanofi Consumer Healthcare India Limited has recently made available Allegra-D in India
Allegra-D combines two active agents: fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine. Fexofenadine, a second-generation antihistamine, selectively blocks peripheral H1 receptors and functions as an inverse agonist, stabilizing receptors in their inactive form. It provides effective control of allergic symptoms without crossing the blood–brain barrier or causing sedation. Pseudoephedrine, an oral decongestant, acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, leading to vasoconstriction, reduced edema, and improved nasal airflow.
Together, these agents provide broad relief from allergy symptoms and nasal congestion, supporting better breathing and improved daily functioning for patients. Check the above video to understand its mechanism of action.
