AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria's tenure ends today, 30 doctors in fray for AIIMS top job

The tenure of Dr. Randeep Guleria as the director of AIIMS, New Delhi was supposed to end on the 24th of this month. Sources said the process of selecting a new director had begun. On Tuesday, the selection committee chaired by the Union health secretary met to discuss all potential candidates.

Further deliberations will be held to decide on the list of candidates to be sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Till then, an official or acting director will be given the charge," said the source. More than 30 top doctors from across the country have applied for the post. This includes 17 faculty members from the institute itself. 

NMC Invites Applications For Renewal Of MBBS Course For 2022-23 Academic Year

Through a recent notice, the 1.1 Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has Invited applications for renewal of undergraduate MBBS courses for the Academic Year 2022-23.

The apex medical regulator has Advised the medical colleges to apply online with a processing fee to conduct assessments during this academic year to permit admissions for the Academic Year 2022-23.

The medical colleges shall apply within 6 months after starting of the classes for the next academic year.

ONLY ONLINE Applications will be received – including enclosures and Fees. NO OFFLINE (Hard Copy) will be accepted by the commission, the NMC states on the information page.

With Karnataka 3 having 60 medical colleges, students who had to 3.1 flee Ukraine in the wake of the Russian invasion have written to the state government to absorb them in local colleges.

The government had, on Monday, said the students would be allowed to attend classes in medical colleges in Karnataka and won't be formally absorbed in the colleges yet. They are now waiting to hear from a committee formed by the state to look into the matter.

The students, however, made it clear they are only requesting the government to help them and not demanding anything.

A few students TOI spoke with said they have no hopes of going back.  "It was just three months ago that I left for Ukraine for the first year. Many like me would prefer to continue medical education here,".

Pfizer Recalls Blood Pressure Drug Accuretic Due To Potential Carcinogen

Pfizer Inc said on Monday it was recalling some lots of 4.1 blood pressure drug Accuretic and two authorized cheaper versions of the drug due to the presence of 4.2 elevated levels of a nitrosamine,  a potential cancer-causing impurity.

Pfizer said it has Not received any reports of adverse events related to the drug till date.

Nitrosamines are common in water and foods, including cured and grilled meats, dairy products and vegetables. 4.5 Exposure to the impurities above acceptable levels over long 4.7 periods of time could increase the risk of cancer.

However, there is no immediate risk to patients taking the drug, Pfizer said.

Patients currently taking the products 4.6 should consult with their doctor about alternative treatment options, the drugmaker said.
