The Supreme Court bench recently directed a Maharashtra-based eye surgeon to pay Rs 3.5 lakh compensation to a patient, who developed an infection and abscess after undergoing a cataract surgery around 25 years ago.
Even though the State Consumer Court had asked the doctor to pay compensation, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) had held that there was no negligence on the doctor's part.
A doctor from Maharashtra's Latur city and his nephew, accused of murdering a security guard working at his hospital, have had their police remand extended until January 6.
Icon Hospital security guard Balu Bharat Dongre (35) died on December 11 after being severely beaten up, following which a murder case was registered at Shivajinagar police station against Dr Pramod Ghuge, who owns the facility, and the latter’s nephew Aniket Munde.

A 31-year-old Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor from Ranjangaon, who owns a hospital, has filed a cheating complaint against his wife, her parents, and an intermediary, accusing his wife who has only completed her 12th grade of falsely claiming to be a BAMS doctor to get married. The complaint was filed following a court order.
The doctor accused them of allegedly misleading him about the woman's educational qualifications during marriage discussions. It has been reported that the accused was informed that his wife had completed her BAMS education but in reality, she had only completed her 12th standard education.
