Govt set to finalise comprehensive checklist for medical education standards in India

Aiming to improve the quality of medical education and patient care, the Union Government is preparing a quality overhaul for the medical education standards in India.

Mint has reported that, according to senior officials and official documents, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is finalising a unified checklist of standards for medical college hospitals, laboratories, and critical care blocks, to harmonise patient safety and clinical training across India.

Delhi HC restrains doctor from running medical centre, rules livelihood not violated during trial

In a recent order, the Delhi High Court has held that if a bail condition restricts a doctor, involved in a medical crime, from running a medical centre till the completion of the trial, it does not violate the right to livelihood under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.

The HC bench made this observation while considering an application by a doctor seeking modification in the bail condition granted for offences punishable under Sections 304, 419, 420, 196, 197, 198, 201, and 201B of the Indian Penal Code.

Alarming substance use among medicos, 36 percent at Indore’s Index Medical College consume alcohol, tobacco and drugs, finds study

Out of 400 medical students surveyed at Index Medical College, Indore, 36 percent were found to be using alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, while 44 percent admitted to having tried them at least once, according to a new study published in the International Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Research.

The cross-sectional study, led by Dr Piyush Dwivedi, a junior resident in the Psychiatry Department at Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, surveyed 400 medical students, including both undergraduates and postgraduates, to understand the prevalence, patterns and the reason behind the current substance use.

FMGs seek withdrawal of JnK medical council’s 2-year CRMI mandate, cite misinterpretation

The FMGs have expressed a strong concern over the recent directive issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council regarding the duration of the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs).

Speaking to Medical Dialogues, the Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Foreign Medical Students' Wing of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), Dr. Mohammed Momin Khan, said that the Council has informed all the FMGs enrolling into the CRMI programme that they would have to undergo the mandatory internship for two years. He informed that even though students from countries like Bangladesh and Iran pursued their entire course through offline mode, they are also allegedly being asked to undergo an extra year of internship.
