13 UP medical colleges face MBBS permission denial by NMC, state to file appeal

Lucknow: As the National Medical Commission (NMC) has refused to grant its approval to altogether 13 new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh to start the MBBS course, the State Government is planning to appeal before the Apex Medical Commission in this regard.

The UP Government had planned to commence admission at the 1300 MBBS seats in these 13 new government medical colleges. However, the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body, NMC, denied granting its nod after shortcomings were pointed out during the inspection, including deficiencies in the infrastructure and faculty strength.

Kottayam MCH performs successful liver transplant on 5-year-old

Thiruvananthapuram: In a landmark medical achievement, the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Kottayam district has performed its first paediatric liver transplant surgery.

According to a PTI report, the surgery was performed on a five-year-old child suffering from liver-related ailments, Health Minister Veena George said here in a statement on Saturday.

Tripura HIV case: 47 student dead, 828 positive cases

A recent report from the Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) has revealed that forty-seven students have died from HIV in Tripura, with 828 students testing positive for the virus. According to a senior TSACS official, "We have registered 828 students who are HIV positive. Out of them, 572 students are still alive, and unfortunately, we have lost 47 to this dreaded infection. Many students have migrated out of Tripura for higher studies in prestigious institutions across the country."

The Tripura AIDS Control Society has identified students from 220 schools and 24 colleges and universities who are involved in injectable drug use. This data was collected from 164 health facilities across the state, covering almost all blocks and subdivisions.
