NEXT exam: NMC conveys its decision to replace NEET PG to Health Ministry in high level meeting

The National Medical Commission (NMC) is planning to hold the NExT exam in December 2023 replacing the current PG medical admissions gateway, NEET PG scheduled for April-May next year to be the last such examination. The information to this effect was shared by the official sources familiar with the matter to the Press Trust of India.

Centre grants 265 DNB seats to JnK Govt hospitals

In a significant move, in sync with Prime Minister's vision of "Health for All" aimed at improvement of healthcare delivery across the country, Government of India has granted 265 Diplomate of National Board (DNB) postgraduate medical seats to several Government hospitals in J&K across 20 districts with the active contribution of National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

This important step would not only ensure that people of J&K are benefited but the doctors of J&K will also get an opportunity of being trained in their own region. Tapping this homegrown medical workforce would lead to an effective healthcare delivery system in the UT.

Freebies to doctors illegal: ITAT disallows Rs 1 crore business promotion expenses by Mankind Pharma on gift cards

Denying relief to drug major Mankind Pharma Ltd., the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal(ITAT), Delhi has rejected its plea with respect to the disallowance of sale promotion expenses of more than Rs 1 crore to doctors by way of gift cards noting that freebies given to doctors are illegal and does not fall under the head "Business Promotion Expenses".

The bench comprising Anil Chaturvedi and Challa Nagendra Prasad, heard the appeal filed by Mankind Pharma against the order of the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax. The drug maker submitted that no justification was given by the department in denying the sales promotion expenses incurred by the drug maker (assessee) in the form of freebies given to doctors.

HC acquits doctor from charges of murdering pharmacist wife, holds guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder

Holding that the murder was not a "premeditated and planned act", the Bombay High Court has quashed the life imprisonment sentenced to a Maharastra-based doctor.

Taking note of the fact that the doctor has already served jail-term for 14 years for allegedly murdering his pharmacist wife, the HC bench comprising of Justices M.N. Jadhav and A.S. Gadkari modified the order of the Sessions court and acquitted the doctor from charges of murder under Section 302 IPC and held him guilty of culpable homicide under Section 304 (Part-I) of IPC, additionally reducing his imprisonment to 10-years.
