Nationwide protests erupt over RG Kar Medical College PG medico murder; CM promises CBI probe if mystery persists
Amid the nationwide protests against the recent brutal rape and murder of a PG respiratory medicine student at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured that Kolkata Police fails to resolve the mystery of the case within the next 7 days, the investigation charge can be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CM Banerjee also said she wants the case to be tried in a fast-track court, PTI has reported. "If the police are unable to solve this by Sunday, we will hand over the case to the CBI. However, the success rate of the central probe agency is very low," Banerjee told reporters after visiting the residence of the deceased doctor. Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court will hear a plea seeking a CBI investigation into the matter tomorrow.

Over 4,000 Karnataka doctors protest, demand stipend hike
Pointing out that their stipend was not revised after 2020, the doctors in Karnataka have initiated their protest, as announced earlier.
The resident doctors under the aegis of Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors (KARD) have alleged that currently, they receive 50% of what their counterparts in other States get as a stipend, even though the charges of medical education in the institutes across the State are significantly higher than in other states.

Safety of women doctors under scrutiny: Man arrested for threatening doctor with same fate as RG Kar PG medico
The safety of women doctors across the country was once again challenged recently when a man in Bengal's Purba Bardhaman district threatened a lady doctor of a similar fate as the rape and murder of the PG doctor at R G Kar Medical College, Kolkata.
PTI has reported that the man- Susanta Roy was a patient, who threatened the female doctor if his treatment was delayed. Roy was arrested after doctors and nurses of the state-run Bhatar State General Hospital staged a protest against the incident.

NEET PG 2024: Candidates rate question paper as moderate to difficult
Amid the complaints from the aspirants regarding the allocation of NEET PG 2024 exam centres and the speculations regarding paper leak, the postgraduate medical entrance examination was successfully conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on its scheduled date i.e. August 11, 2024.
Giving mixed responses regarding the question paper candidates have opined that the exam paper was moderate to difficult. Candidates noted a mixed variety of questions that led to an overall moderately difficult paper.
