96,077 MBBS, 49,790 PG seats available in India: MoS Health informs Parliament
There are a total number of 96,077 MBBS seats and 49,790 Postgraduate medical seats in India, the Minister of State in the Union Health Ministry Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar has informed the Rajya Sabha.
Among the MBBS seats, altogether 51,712 MBBS seats are in the Government Medical Colleges and 44,365 MBBS seats are in the Private Medical Colleges. In case of PG medical seats, overall 30,384 PG medical seats are available in the Government institutes while 19,406 PG medical seats are run by the private management.

Final year MBBS student leaves pediatrics exam midway, hangs self in hostel room
In an unfortunate incident, a resident doctor working at RBM District Hospital in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on Monday.
Informing about the incident to the media accounts, the police officials confirmed that the deceased medico, identified as 23-year-old Surendra Gurjar was pursuing his final year in MBBS and was to appear for a practical exam in paediatrics. He allegedly left the exam midway, came back to his hostel room and ended his life.

Only NEET for MBBS admissions at AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, other INIs, no separate entrance test
Only the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET will be the gateway to the MBBS admissions at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS and other Institutes of National Importance (INI) including JIPMER and PGIMER. No separate medical entrance test will be held for MBBS admissions at INI institutions.
According to a recent report by the Press Trust of India, MBBS admissions to all the AIIMS and other institutes of national importance will continue to be through NEET with the proposal for a separate entrance test for such institutes being rejected at the recently held governing body meeting of the AIIMS.
