India registers 6,594 new COVID-19 infections, active cases rise to 50,548

India has registered 6,594 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The country's active caseload at present stands at 50,548. Active cases now constitute 0.12 per cent of the nation's total positive cases.

India has so far conducted over 85.54 crore cumulative tests. The weekly positivity rate in the country currently stands at 2.32 per cent and the daily positivity rate is reported to be 2.05 per cent.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain sent to 14-day judicial custody   

AAP leader and Delhi's Health Minister Satyendar Jain has been sent to 14-day judicial custody in an alleged money laundering case by Rouse Avenue court.

Jain was arrested in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate last month in connection with an alleged hawala transaction related to a Kolkata-based company. The investigation has been underway since 2017 and the Minister was arrested on May 30.

Mismatched blood transfusion results in patient's death: Consumer court directs hospital, doctor to pay Rs 20 lakh compensation

Taking note of the error on the part of the Thiruvananthapuram-based Samad Hospital and its doctor while managing a patient who underwent laparoscopic surgery at the hospital, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) recently held them guilty for wrong blood transfusion to the patient that ultimately led to her death, around 20 years ago.

Therefore the top consumer court has directed the Hospital and Dr. Sathi M. Pillai to pay a lump sum compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased.

NMC allows KUHS to transfer MBBS interns of Kannur Medical College to other colleges following HC order

Complying with the High Court order, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently allowed the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) for transferring the MBBS medicos of Anjarakandy-based Kannur Medical College to other institutes.

The permission in this regard has been given by UGMEB President Dr Aruna Vanikar in a letter dated June 6. Such a decision has been taken by the NMC board after taking note of the poor facilities in the medical college.
