Microplastics found in human breast milk for the first time

The breast milk samples were taken from 34 healthy mothers, a week after giving birth in Rome, Italy. For the first time, Microplastics have been detected in human breast milk raising concern among researchers over the potential health impacts on infants.

Medical claims cannot be denied only because hospital not mentioned in Govt order: HC

Reiterating the observations made by the Supreme Court, the High court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh recently clarified that an employee of the Government cannot be denied reimbursement solely on the ground that he/she has taken treatment in a specialty hospital by himself/herself which was not at all recognized or approved by the State or not included in the Government order.

With this, the HC bench comprising of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal provided relief to a late employee of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) at Kupwara, Kashmir. Although the employee had been admitted at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, he had later been taken to Apollo Hospital and AIIMS, New Delhi.

MBBS subjects to now be taught in Hindi at MP medical colleges, Doctors' frown over Govts move 

On October 16, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is going to launch first-year MBBS textbooks, which have been translated from English into Hindi, in the state of Madhya Pradesh. With this, three MBBS subjects - anatomy, physiology and biochemistry - will be taught in Hindi to first-year MBBS students in all 13 government medical colleges of the state.

Upset with the Government's move, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has stated that the step will take the country 50 years behind in the coming 10 years

DCI issues guidelines for curbing ragging menace at dental colleges, details

The Dental Council of India (DCI) has issued guidelines for curbing the menace of ragging in dental institutions.

DCI states that it is the responsibility of all institutions to ensure that no ragging occurs in their dental institution. Measures are taken to curb it may be reviewed as DCI Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Dental Colleges, 2009.

As per section 11.3 of the regulations above, the authorities/Management (Trust, Societies, etc.) of the institution, particularly the Head of the institution, shall be responsible for ensuring that no incident of ragging takes place in the institution. In case any ragging incident occurs, the Management/Head shall take prompt and appropriate action against the person(s) whose dereliction of duty lead to the incident. In its turn, the authority designated to appoint the Head shall take prompt and appropriate action against the Head.

MBBS, BDS admission in Punjab: GMC Mohali not offering EWS quota seats

Punjab-based Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has not reserved any seats at the Government Medical College at Mohali for the students belonging to economically weaker section (EWS).

Even though the University has reserved 50 out of total 600 MBBS seats in three government medical colleges at Amritsar, Patiala and Fairdkot, GMC Mohali remains an exception.

The reason that the University took such a decision is the fact that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not inspected the college yet. Therefore, the EWS quota rule has not been made applicable for this institute.
