Police cannot file FIR, investigate PC PNDT Act offenses, says Allahabad HC
The Allahabad High Court recently specified that police officers are debarred from registering the FIR and investigating offenses under the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PCPNDT Act).
Only the 'Appropriate Authority' or the person authorized under the PC & PNDT Act can carry out the investigation and police involvement can only be sought when there is some restraint on the part of the accused persons, clarified the High Court in its recent order dated 30.09.2024.

Nagpur Hospital GM scammed of ₹43 lakh with false promise of high investment returns
In a recent fraud case reported in the city, the general manager of a Nagpur-based hospital was reportedly swindled out of Rs 43 lakh by his former business partner, who promised attractive returns on investment.
The victim, Vikas Mishra, a general manager at a Nagpur-based hospital, was deceived into a fraudulent scheme by his former business partner, who promised quick profits. In pursuit of these returns, Mishra had taken out multiple loans to invest in the scheme.

Existence of 40% disability does not bar students from pursuing MBBS: SC
The Supreme Court recently held that the mere existence of a benchmark disability of 40% or above will not disqualify a candidate from being eligible for MBBS admission unless a Disability Assessment Board opines that the candidate's disability will come in the way of pursuing the course in question.
Further, the Apex Court bench of Justices BR Gavai, Aravind Kumar, and KV Viswanathan also observed that the Disability Assessment Boards should specify the reasons for holding that a candidate suffering from benchmark disability is not eligible to pursue the course.
