Vigilance probes alleged irregularities in six government hospitals' medical supplies

The Vigilance Department is presently investigating the purchase committees of six state-run government hospitals. The committees are being scrutinized for their alleged procurement of substandard medical supplies and disposable items used in the treatment of patients.

The six state-run hospitals include Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital.

HC overturns NMC decision on MBBS eligibility for FMGs without mandatory english

The Madras High Court bench recently granted relief to a foreign medical graduate, who was denied an eligibility certificate by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on the ground that she did not study English.

Granting relief to the medico, the HC bench explained that English as a subject at the secondary level is not a mandatory requirement to study the MBBS course.

These observations were made by the HC bench while considering the plea by the petitioner, who is an Overseas Citizen of India. She pursued her school education in India in the Central Board of Secondary Education till 10th standard in Tamil Nadu. Thereafter, her family moved to Sri Lanka, and she completed her 12th Standard. Following this, she pursued her MBBS degree from China.

Delhi hospital awarded Rs 20 lakh relief in negligence case for tubectomy

Reiterating the Apex Court's ruling that the methods of sterilization so far known to the medical science are not 100% safe and secure, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), North-East Delhi dismissed a complaint seeking compensation for a failed tubectomy surgery.

The consumer court held that the complainant was not entitled to compensation for unwanted pregnancy since there was no negligence on the part of the hospital in performing the surgery and the complainant herself turned down the advice for Medical Termination of Pregnancy.

Insurance company reimburses denied surgery claim to doctor

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Dohad recently directed an insurance company to pay Rs 58,675 to a doctor, who was denied a part of his claim from the insurance company for the surgical process he had to undergo in 2021.

The doctor had to approach the consumer court after being denied part of his claim. Ruling in favour of the doctor, the consumer court directed the insurance company to pay Rs 58,675 to the concerned doctor with an interest of six per cent.
